Fuse Size Chart (Amperage Guide)

A single fuse chart cannot assign safe ratings to every appliance or wire gauge. Use the charts below as an identification and calculation aid, then check the exact equipment and installation.

Common small automotive blade colors

Printed amps Common color
5 Tan
7.5 Brown
10 Red
15 Blue
20 Yellow
25 Clear/natural
30 Green

Color conventions may differ across families; read the number and verify the shape.

Current estimates, not fuse prescriptions

Load description Estimate What still matters
24 W resistive load at 12 V ~2 A (24/12) Inrush, wire and device instructions
500 W AC output inverter on 12 V battery, 90% efficient ~46 A (500/12/0.9) Lower battery voltage, surge, cable and manual
1000 W AC output inverter at 10.5 V, 85% efficient ~112 A Cable, holder, battery fault current and manual

No universal AWG-to-fuse table: conductor ampacity changes with copper/aluminum, insulation, temperature, grouping, length, terminals and installation rules. Determine allowable conductor current and voltage drop for the actual run. Choose a fuse with a suitable time-current curve, AC/DC voltage rating and interrupt capacity that protects the smallest conductor and follows the equipment maker’s instructions. Never select an internal microwave fuse from a “1000 W” cooking-output label.
